The UW men's tennis team (3-9 Big Ten, 8-15 overall) ended a frustrating spring season Friday after losing in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Team Championship in East Lansing, Mich.
Seeded 10th in the tournament, the Badgers fell 4-0 to the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes a day after upsetting No. 7 Penn State.
Ohio State controlled the match from the beginning, dominating UW in doubles play. OSU's senior Jeremy Wurtzman and freshman Joey Atlas defeated the Badgers' No. 1 doubles pair of junior Alex Kasarov and senior David Hippee, 8-3, while the Buckeyes' No. 2 sophomore duo of Scott Green and Ross Wilson took down UW's No. 2 of senior Scott Green and freshman Pete Amundson, 8-3.
In singles play, the Buckeyes' No. 4, 5 and 6 seeds knocked of their Badger foes in straight sets giving Ohio State an insurmountable team lead. With the match already decided, the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 matchups in singles did not finish.
With the Badgers season over, the only hope of further postseason play will be with the NCAA championships. If selected to compete, Wisconsin will send players to Tulsa, Okla., May 14-16.
