Anthony Shadid, a 2004 Pulitzer Prize-winning news writer and former Daily Cardinal staff member, was in town Wednesday to deliver the Ralph O. Nafziger lecture to a standing-room-only crowd at the Fluno Center, 601 University Ave.
The lecture, titled \Uncovering Baghdad: Reporting in Iraq in War and its Aftermath,"" focused on Shadid's time in Iraq while covering the war for the Washington Post.
Shadid spoke at length about his encounters with Iraqi locals during his time in the Middle East and their feelings toward the war, Saddam Hussein and the future of Iraq.
Shadid is currently on-leave from the Post to write a book about the time leading up to the war, its aftermath and the many Iraqi perspectives that exist in its wake.
Shadid is a graduate of UW-Madison School of Journalism and received the school's Nafziger Award in 2002, given to an outstanding recent graduate of the school.
