Students and graduates had a chance to network around the world outside college at the 2004 Career Links reception, held Thursday night at the Pyle Center. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association, the forum offered students of all levels and backgrounds a chance to talk with alumni about finding a career path outside of college.
\It's a pretty informal structure,"" said Alicia Jackson, director of diversity for WAA. ""They're sharing their stories, talking to students directly about what their experience is like from their major to the job force.""
At the event, students had several opportunities to gather information, both from the alumni and from each other. Graduates talked to students about their work in various fields, including minority business affairs and intercollegiate athletics. Additionally, representatives from Target and Brown Shoe were there to offer career opportunities.
The event was designed to be casual-attendees were encouraged to simply move around, chat and swap business cards.
""It's a really beneficial opportunity for networking,"" said UW-Madison senior Christina Taylor. ""Where at job fairs it's a very competitive atmosphere ... this is a good atmosphere and a good environment, very relaxed.""
