Jake, your column would have been mediocre if it had actually been a socialist-organized event (\Socialists' protest childish, self defeating,"" Opinion Column, Oct. 4).
Only two members of Stop the War are members of the international socialist organization. As for the several others who participated who you have sweepingly labeled ""socialists,"" you may want to retract that kind of libel. Many of them are democrats, anarchists and proud liberals. I myself am indeed a socialist, and if your attempts were to cast a broad stroke against such confrontational protest as Stop the War's, then do so, but you should know the lessons of such red-baiting.
Argue against the content and even the tactics if you like. But do your homework when it comes to discrediting the titles. It doesn't reflect well on the author.
