A popular downtown Madison bar and restaurant will double its capacity after receiving approval Wednesday night from the Alcohol License and Review Committee.
Stillwater's, 250 State St., will now be able to expand into the adjacent Radio Shack, 154 W. Johnson St.
According to Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, Radio Shack will be going out of business in January at that location.
\I'm not sure what their future is downtown,"" he said. ""They were looking for a new location downtown, but nothing has been secured.""
Verveer added Stillwater's owner Mike Rogers has been planning for at least 10 years to expand his business.
The ALRC also postponed a final decision on allowing a second-floor wine tasting room in Badger Liquor, 402 State St., over ""unanswered questions and concerns,"" according to Verveer.
The tasting room would have a 15-person capacity and would close by 9 p.m. so as not to conflict with bar time.
Verveer said ALRC members will take up the issue at their November meeting.
