Come hell or high water, The Daily Cardinal and The Badger Herald will write another chapter in the storied history of the annual Cardinal/Herald football game. The 80 percent chance of thunderstorms should provide sloppy conditions, much like the Herald football team's performance the last two years.
The Cardinal, meanwhile, storms in riding a two-year unbeaten streak and the latest Vegas odds have them favored by six-and-a-half points.
Father Balistreri will bless the team before the game, with his traditional convocation, \May the waters of the keg sanctify you, may the sweat of your victory exalt you.""
Amen Father.
The Cardinal will bring a flurry of young talent into this year's game. Following a medical redshirt his freshman year, sophomore wide out Connor McKnight promises to be a threat in both football and drinking.
Combining the powers of Matt Bernstein and Owen Daniels, junior tight end/wide out/fullback Eric Schmoldt has been fasting since Thursday afternoon and is a sure-fire candidate for the ESPN Game Changing Performance contest.
Do not underestimate, however, the senior leadership on this year's team. Returning stars include past sports editors Arvind Gopalratnam and Cary Dohman. Seniors Kate Hedlin and Clint Robus will also return with the entire offensive line, Ben Schultz.
The two teams battled back and forth last year with the Cardinal coming out on top in the end.
""From what I recall we pulled it off in the end and concluded with celebratory keg stands. This year I expect nothing less,"" said Gopalratnam.
