A 19-year-old UW-Madison student sustained minor injuries after a man allegedly sexually assaulted her shortly after midnight Nov. 21, according to the Madison Police Department. 

 

 

 

The incident occurred as the victim returned to her home on the 100 block of Langdon Street from a downtown bar and entered the front door of her security-locked building. According to the release, after walking inside and up a stairwell, the suspect grabbed her from behind and pushed her down the stairs. The suspect allegedly tried to rip off her clothing. After a 20-second struggle, the victim escaped, ran into another room in the building and called police. The release states the suspect also stole the victim's purse.

The suspect, who wore a knee-length black coat and a black hood over his head, is still at large,. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 266-6014. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Madison-based Marines reservist Ryan Cantafio was killed fighting in Iraq, dying at approximately noon Thanksgiving Day, according to The Capital Times. Cantafio is the fourth soldier from one unit to die this month in the line of duty, and the 29th Wisconsin soldier to be killed in the war in Iraq. 

 

 

 

Family members said they learned of Cantafio's death Thanksgiving night. Stepmother Bobbie Jo Cantafio told The Capital Times her stepson died after encountering an explosion along a road. 

 

\We don't know the whole story yet,"" Cantafio's father Joe added. ""There was a roadside bomb when they were driving by. There were no other injuries.""  

 

 

 

Cantafio went to Iraq in August, and would have turned 23 Dec. 17. He is survived by his wife Amanda. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Two men who allegedly caused nearly $20,000 worth of damage to 43 vehicles on the UW-Madison campus were formally charged Wednesday with felony criminal damage and theft, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. 

 

 

 

The two men, Edward N. Burger and Riccardo A. Dufek, both of Madison, were each charged with seven counts of criminal damage to property and one count of theft in connection with a streak of vandalism in which the two allegedly participated Oct. 3. 

 

 

 

According to a criminal complaint, Burger told UW-Madison Police he and Dufek decided to do the damage to the cars and steal their contents in an effort to get money.  

 

 

 

Burger called himself and Dufek anarchists, and said the two specifically targeted government vehicles, the complaint said. 

 

According to the complaint, the two caused $19,750 worth of damage to the vehicles and stole $4,078 worth of merchandise from inside them.
