The Wisconsin Badgers (2-3-0 Big Ten, 9-8-0 overall) completed a sweep of in-state opponents Wednesday by beating Marquette (1-6-1 Conference USA, 5-11-1) 5-3. Senior forward Jed Hohlbein and senior midfielder/forward Nick Van Sicklen led the Badgers in the win.
Marquette took the early lead in the 23rd minute on a rebound goal, but Hohlbein scored three of the next four goals to lead the Badgers to victory.
All three of Hohlbein's shots on the night found the back of the net. His first two goals came within three minutes of each other, scoring in the 35th and 37th minutes to give the Badgers the lead.
Wisconsin got its third goal of the night thanks to a Golden Eagle own goal in the 44th minute when a Badger corner kick bounced off a Marquette defender and into the net.
Van Sicklen, fresh off his second straight Big Ten Player of the Week honor, added a late goal in the 54th minute to go along with two assists on the evening.
Marquette tried to battle back, scoring immediately after the Badgers' final goal and then again in the 68th minute, but it was all for naught.
With the win, the Badgers finished their in-state season 3-0, after edging UW-Milwaukee 2-1 Oct. 6 and beating UW-Green Bay 4-1 Oct. 27.
