The women's volleyball team is recovering from a rough weekend after facing three top-25 ranked teams on the road. The Badgers lost the first match to No. 25 Illinois before facing defeats to No. 4 Penn State and No. 8 Ohio State.
Although the Badgers led the statistics early in the game Friday night, errors near the end of game two gave Penn State the opportunity to seal a win.
\We just made errors at crucial points,"" freshman setter Jackie Simpson said. ""We didn't make a lot of errors, just made them at the wrong time.""
A victory was in reach for the Badgers after the strong fundamental performance early in the match, yet suffered from a bit of a let-up at the end of the second game leading to a defeat.
""The one we really had a shot at was the Penn State game,"" said Head Coach Pete Waite. ""Actually, statistically we out did them in almost every category, but we just let up a little bit at the end of game two giving them the energy and the drive to finish it off.""
Statistically, the Badgers showed a strong performance. The team reached a season high of 91 total digs on Friday night against Penn State, led by freshman libero Jocelyn Wack with a career high 29 digs.
""The numbers of digs I thought was very good,"" said Waite. ""I think a lot of it came because of our blocks and the touches we got.""
The Badgers will host Michigan and Michigan State on Friday and Saturday night for the last two home matches of the season in the UW Field House.
