Q: Dear DNC,
My favorite drink for the holidays is egg nog. Is this a healthy holiday drink?
A: There are many varieties of this product, including store- bought and homemade egg nog.
The homemade kind could contain raw eggs and be a danger for food-borne illness. A small half-cup serving has around 12 grams of fat, seven of which are saturated, and 65 milligrams of cholesterol, which can be dangerous for your heart if not balanced with healthy foods throughout the day.
However, egg nog does contain some protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron, so choose your drinks wisely and enjoy the holidays!
