Firefighter in court for Halloween blaze

Jared Sunde, a Rio, Wis., volunteer firefighter caught on film fanning a bonfire on State Street during Halloween, received formal misdeamenor charges last Thursday for his alleged Halloween antics. 

 

 

 

Madison Police Department video footage of Halloween evening shows Sunde throwing a hat, box and large section of cardboard into the bonfire while wearing his firefighting apparel.  

 

 

 

According to the complaint, Sunde initially denied feeding the fire, although he acknowledged he was present. However, after seeing the police department's tape, Sunde admitted to the acts.

For his alleged particpation Sunde faces a charge of negligent handling of burning materials. Police released Sunde on bond after making his court appearance last Thursday morning in the Dane County Circuit Court.  

 

 

 

Sunde is currently a student at UW-Platteville. Rio Fire Chief Bob Lang said he would await the verdict of the investigation before deciding his course of action concerning Sunde.
