The UW System announced Friday that System President Kevin Reilly appointed Donald Mash, the current chancellor of UW-Eau Claire, to be the UW System executive vice president.
\The time is right for this change, and Don Mash is the best individual to manage the tasks at hand,"" Reilly said in a press release.
According to the release, the restructuring of UW System administration allowed the creation of the executive vice president position. The new position will take the place of the senior vice president for administration and vice president for university relations positions, a move that will assist in the UW System's cost-saving initiatives.
Mash will manage day-to-day activities as chief operating officer and deputy for administration under Reilly, according to the release. Mash's appointment, which will begin March 1 and last two years, has an annual salary of $230,000.
Mash has been involved in campus administration for 17 years, serving as a vice president at Washington, D.C.'s George Mason University from 1975 to 1988 and President of Wayne State College in Nebraska from 1988 to 1998 before becoming chancellor at UW-Eau Claire.
