Charter Communications began offering telephone service in Madison Tuesday as it made its network in the city all digital. With the new service, Charter completes the \Telecom Triple Play"" of TV, high-speed internet and telephone service in one package starting at $99.
Charter's all-digital upgrade anticipates competition from SBC and Verizon, who already offer satellite TV and DSL high-speed Internet packages but do not offer advanced digital TV services locally.
Charter plans to extend its all-digital coverage to the communities surrounding Madison after the Madison upgrade is complete. It will still deliver analog services for those customers who do not want to pay extra to go digital.
