Women's tennis
The Wisconsin women's tennis team extended its season-best winning streak to seven matches with a victory over Penn State, only to have Indiana snap the streak two days later. The No. 35 Badgers (3-2 Big Ten, 11-5 overall) edged the Nittany Lions (0-5, 5-8) 4-3 Friday evening and fell to No. 36 Indiana (4-1, 10-8) 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers earned their third straight conference victory against the Nittany Lions as personal streaks continued to roll for UW. Sophomore Kaylan Caiati won for the seventh straight time, besting PSU sophomore Katelyn BeVard 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. UW freshman Nicole Beck defeated PSU freshman Jenny Shular 7-6 (6), 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Beck has won six of her last seven matches and eight of her last ten.
Unfortunately the Badgers could not keep the momentum, as Indiana proved to be more challenging than Penn State. The Badgers dropped the doubles point and only notched two wins in singles play. Yet the underclassmen duo of Caiati and Beck continued their strong play. Caiati extended her winning steak to eight straight-the longest for a Badger this season-downing IU senior Dominika Walterova 6-1, 6-1. Beck kept her run going with a win over Hoosier freshman Brianna Williams 6-2, 7-6 (5), upping her record to 10-6 on the season.
Women's golf
The Wisconsin women's golf team could not take advantage of a six stroke improvement to make up any ground in the final round of the Indiana Invitational Sunday.
The Badgers finished with a total score of 642 (324-318) and tied for seventh-place with Illinois and Iowa. UW junior Jackie Obermueller shot a 79 Sunday to tie for 21st-place. Sophomore Jill Ries tied for 37th-place and shot a season-low 80 Sunday. Notre Dame took home the team title.
