In the early morning hours on Friday, Sept. 2, Madison police arrived at Bradley Hall to find a UW-Madison freshman had died in her dorm room.
According to Madison Police Officer Mike Hanson, police responded to an emergency call from a student at 2:55 a.m. regarding the woman, who had recently moved into Bradley Hall. When the police arrived at the west campus dorm, they found no signs of life in the woman.
\A student died and we at this point know it was not an illness and not a homicide,"" said Lori Berquam, UW-Madison Dean of Students. She said the woman was a freshman from Northfield, Minn., who had just moved into the dorms.
According to UW-Madison police officer Brian Bridges, there have been no signs of foul play but the death has not been ruled a suicide.
Bridges added the Dane Co. Coroner's office is awaiting toxicology and microscopic examination reports that will come in eight to 10 weeks.
According to Josh Cohen, a UW-Madison freshman living in Bradley, paramedics came to the dorm to assist the police.
The students who lived in Bradley did not know a death had occurred until the next day when university officials informed them and offered counseling for any student who requested it, Cohen said.
""I would consider this a tragic event. It's had a huge impact on the students living in the community,"" Berquam said.
