Campus officials met with developers from Potter Lawson Inc. Monday as part of continuing efforts to design the University Square area. The building will boast over one million square feet of floor space, and final plans will be worked out at a Nov. 1 meeting.
The new facility will be built on the 700 block of University Avenue. The location is currently the site of several restaurants and businesses.
The proposed plans will bring a variety of UW-Madison departments under one roof, including the Office of the Registrar, Office of the Bursar and Student Financial Services. In addition, it will unite the two offices of the University Health Services in a more central location. UHS had previously identified its distance from student housing as a potential impediment to students seeking health care.
The meeting centered around the proposed floor plans for the ninth, tenth and eleventh floors, areas which will mainly house different student financial services.
Student loan services and counseling will be on the ninth floor, the tenth will contain the Bursar's office and the Registrar's office will grace the topmost floor.
In addition to office space, the building will have space for retail establishments on the first floor.
