Beginning floor plans for the new Student Activity Center in the new University Square complex were revealed Wednesday night during a forum held by the SAC Committee. Various groups and organizations attended to hear and see the germinating plans for the new University Square. The SAC Committee opened up the forum for student input.
'Ultimately we would like to have student or student leaders give their input,' said UW-Madison senior and SAC standing board coordinator Jeff Schiller.
Matt Healy, a UW-Madison senior and SAC Committee group member, highlighted the main goal that the committee has for the SAC.
'The idea is for it [the building] to be more than just a bunch of offices,' he said. 'We're not looking to just take a big space, divide it into as many cubes as we can and hand it out. We want a real unique kind of dynamic in this space.'
Plans for this space would include three large conference rooms, all technology equipped.
A living room area modeled after the Open Book Caf?? in College Library and a plethora of office spaces ranging from small cubicles to 600 sq. foot office suites for student organizations to occupy, would be included.
UW-Madison senior and African Students Association co-president, Lade Oduala attended the meeting out of curiosity and a desire to find a space for the African Students Association group, but had a small critique of the new building.
'I don't know about the cubicles and all that,' Oduala said. 'I haven't really seen it. Maybe if I see it, and see how it actually looks, but it looks really small.'
Schiller said the plans are just the beginning 'It doesn't mean that we're at the end of any sort of planning or input. It just means we're getting closer and closer to having a real building.'
