Gov. Jim Doyle decried Republican leaders' lack of legislative action on home-heating assistance for low-income families Thursday, according to a statement from his office.
Doyle called for a special Legislative session Feb. 14, asking lawmakers to pass a $6 million dollar emergency heating-assistance package.
'It's deeply disappointing that Republicans in both houses of the Legislature blocked attempts to bring my emergency heating-assistance package up for a vote today,' Doyle said in a statement. 'Republicans are content to go home for the weekend and let 30,000 Wisconsin citizens go without urgently-needed assistance for a least another week.'
Doyle said, despite delays, he applauded Democratic efforts.
'I want to commend Democrats in the Assembly and Senate for their efforts to pass this today,' he said.
