Coincidence, or weird scientology?
Brooke Shields and Katie Holmes have more in common than just the zealous attention of Scientologist Tom Cruise. On Tuesday, both women gave birth to healthy baby girls, named Grier and Suri, respectively. Hopefully the similar attention from Cruise, delivery dates and odd baby names do not lead to parallel post-partum depression, or Katie's going to have a hard time getting anti-depressants.
Joshua Bolten joshes not
Joshua Bolten began his new job as White House chief of staff April 17 by alerting senior aides to expect changes and adjustments\ to the current ranks of personnel, confirming rumors of a shake-up in White House staff.
Bolton advised that ""now would be a good time"" for staffers considering resignation to leave their posts. Following Bolton's promptings, Scott McClellan bolted from this position as White House press secretary, and Karl Rove headed for the Hill to resume campaign politics.
Tax breaks for the wealthy
While many rushed to complete their taxes by April 17, the president and VP finished well before deadline. President Bush paid $187,768 in federal taxes, which might seem outsized for most, but not the vice president. With an income exceeding $8.8 million, Cheney would normally owe $3 million. However, due to $6.87 million in charitable donations, Dick can expect a $1.2 million tax refund, the perfect kickback to fund all the litigation fees for those pesky oil-for-food lawsuits.
Cardinal win
Robert Cheruiyot (2:07:14) and Rita Jeptoo (2:23:38) ran to victory at the Boston Marathon April 17, continuing the Kenyan tradition of marathon domination. However, Americans made unprecedented advancements in the field, placing third through fifth and claiming half of the top 10 places. Experts predict no such advancement for the Badger Herald in today's softball game, however, as the Kenyanesque Cardinal team will undoubtedly dominate the field.
