Amidst the commotion on State Street that accompanies a Halloween weekend in Madison, the most frightening occurrence took place on the ice of the Kohl Center where the Badgers dropped two games to Boston College.
Missed opportunities seemed to be the theme for the UW men's hockey team last weekend.
""By our count we out-chanced Boston College,"" said head coach Mike Eaves. ""The fact was, they scored on their scoring chances and ... we didn't.""
The Badgers managed to out-shoot the Eagles by a 57-40 margin. But, after being outscored 7-1 over the weekend, it seems as though the injuries to Wisconsin's top offensive threats are the most overshadowing problems right now. Eaves, however, does not see the weekend as a total loss.
""This is a growth process for us and I think there are a lot of good things we can take away from the games even though we lost. This is early in the season, and now we kind of find out where we're at as a group,"" Eaves said.
Next weekend brings about a road trip to Alaska. Typically such a long road trip would be seen as a burden, but for Eaves and the Badgers, it is more of an opportunity.
""It's funny how you look at [the road trip]. It's exactly what we need right now. We need to get out of town,"" Eaves said. ""We get to be on the road and know each other better. I think it's a great opportunity for us to come closer as a team.""
Sophomore forward Jack Skille is making progress in his return to the ice but will not play this weekend.
""Jack is going to have a stick in his hand this week and he'll participate in some of our skill drills, but he's still a ways away from contact,"" Eaves said.
