Ben brings old songs back into the fold

It might not be the first time you've heard these songs, but Supersunnyspeedgraphic, the LP, the latest release from Ben Folds, would nevertheless be an excellent addition to your CD collection. Folds' newest release is a compilation album including songs from his limited release EPs Super D, Sunny 16 and SpeedGraphic, as well as his successful b-sides, covers, and soundtrack appearances. The 12 tracks featured on the new CD have been remastered and worked to perfection for the listeners' pleasure.

Although the album is somewhat lacking when it comes to a sense of fluidity, Folds' quirky personality manages to shine through nonetheless. From the emotionally poignant ""Learn to Live with What You Are"" to the more humorous Folds songs such as ""Rent a Cop"" and ""All You Can Eat,"" Folds will never be criticized for having songs that are too similar. Although to the untrained ear his music may sound commercial, to those who appreciate his music, the lyrics continue to be witty and his characteristic style of singing is irreplaceable. Spanning from satirical masterpieces to more sensitive songs, this release is a brilliant example of the versatility of his talent.

Three of the songs were not found on an original EP. The song ""Bruised"" was released in 2004 with Ben Kweller and Ben Lee, whom with Folds formed the Bens. It is a good balance to his more amusing songs. His final song ""Still,"" from the soundtrack to the recent movie ""Over the Hedge"" is another welcome appendage to the album. Additionally, the LP includes three covers that Folds pulls off like no one else could. If you didn't know any better, you'd swear that the Cure's ""In Between Days"" was a Ben Folds original. The Darkness' ""Get Your Hands Off My Woman,"" and the ever popular ""Bitches Ain't Shit"" by Dr. Dre are yet another example of Folds' sense of humor and general awesomeness. Folds is truly a character and Supersunnyspeedygraphic, the LP leaves listeners wanting to ask him just one thing: When are you going to stop being so freaking cool?
