The UW men's football team was ranked the No. 15 most valuable college football team in online business magazine Forbes.com's recent ranking.
Using four beneficiary factors—the school, its athletic department, the team's conference and the community's contributions—Forbes.com ranked the top 15 most valuable college football teams in January.
Notre Dame took the No. 1 ranking at a calculated value of $91 million, and No. 14 Texas A&M finished just ahead of UW with an estimated value of $53 million.
City of Madison officials and UW Athletic Department administrators gave the magazine UW's statistics.
The website valued the Badgers at $51 million, a value that Senior Associate Athletic Director Vince Sweeney said was difficult to calculate accurately.
""It's very difficult to get national perspective and compare, given the different ways people go about their business,"" Sweeney told Madison.com Monday. ""There really doesn't seem to be a streamlined way.""
