Congratulations, incoming Badgers, and welcome to The Daily Cardinal. From today forth, you should consider the Cardinal your ultimate UW-Madison news source, social navigator and lecture diversion.
Each time you read the Cardinal, you'll experience more than just inky fingertips—the Cardinal unites every facet of the UW-Madison experience in a newspaper that easily slips between your biology textbook and laptop. And what's more, it costs 100 percent less than your $200 biology text. That's right—the Cardinal is available free of charge in every lecture hall campus-wide.
Then again, you can't put a price on legacy. Just this year, the Cardinal celebrated its 115th anniversary as UW-Madison's first campus newspaper. In 1892, this newspaper drew its title from the cardinal red that symbolized UW-Madison before the birth of Bucky Badger. The Cardinal thrives as the fifth oldest student newspaper in The United States with content tailored to fit today's campus community.
From Goodnight Hall (we feel for you, communication disorders majors) to Grainger Hall (we want your money, business students), the Cardinal has a story on everything you need to know. This paper pays tribute to UW-Madison's premier research community with a Science page. It pleases the palate with a weekly Food section.
For sports fanatics, the Cardinal goes beyond rosters and recaps: GameDay, PowerPlay and Courtside editions explore the details of every men's football, hockey and basketball home game. On the other hand, if you need a departure from Badger frenzy, look to the four-page Travel section or learn about alternate lifestyles and events in the Features section.
If stories aren't your thing, just flip straight to comics and try your hand at Sudoku.
When it comes to the Cardinal, expect complete campus coverage. For those interested in the Cardinal experience, expect great responsibility and reward. We invite you to join the ranks of Pulitzer Prize, Nobel Prize and Emmy Award winners (plus some normal college students) who identify themselves as Cardinalistas.
Whether you read or report with The Daily Cardinal: Sift, winnow and fly high.
Cheers,
Jill Klosterman
