University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Chancellor Richard Wells withdrew his application for the top position at a Pennsylvania college system Friday, meaning the opening for UW System chancellors will remain at five.
Wells said in an e-mail to UW-Oshkosh faculty and students that after his recent discussions with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors, he felt the position was not the best fit"" for him.
""I suspect that my candidacy for this position has understandably raised concerns among some members of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh community,"" Wells said.
He said he still feels it is an honor to serve as chancellor and the PASSHE position is one of the few jobs he considered since working in Wisconsin.
PASSHE spokesperson Kenn Marshall said Wells did not elaborate on why he withdrew his application.
The UW System is currently searching for chancellors at the Madison, Green Bay, Whitewater, River Falls and Parkside campuses.
