Badgers Take Fifth at Gopher Invitational

The men of the Badger golf team finished up play Sunday afternoon at the Gopher Invitational in Wayzata, Minn., After three rounds of competitive golf, Wisconsin beat out six other teams and found themselves in fifth place overall. That finish improved on last week's ninth place finish in San Francisco.

Leading the way for the Badgers were seniors Tyler Obermueller and Dan Woltman, who found themselves in a five-way tie for 11th place after three rounds. Obermueller and Woltman both shot 80s in the first round, which placed them behind the other three Badgers competing.

Obermueller, however, drastically picked it up in the second round, scoring a 68, a new career low for him. In the third round, he continued his strong play, shooting a 72 and finishing the outing with a total score of 220, four over par. In shooting 220, Obermueller also set a new season low for himself.

Like Obermueller, Woltman also improved on his first round score by shooting a 70 in the second round of play, placing him in a tie for 33rd. Woltman shot another 70 in the third round, advancing 22 spots up the leader board.

Junior Jordan Elsen shot two phenomenal rounds in Wayzata, but bogeys and double bogeys plagued his third round of play, dropping him 20 spots down the leader board. After one round, Elsen was in a tie for sixth place with a score of 71. His second round score of 73 dropped him into a tie for 10th place. Elsen's final round 80 placed him in a six-way tie for 26th place overall.

Senior Danny Zimmerman finished behind Elsen among the Badgers. Zimmerman shot three consistent rounds of golf, placing him in a tie for 34th overall. After the first round, he found himself in a tie for 40th with a score of 77, five over par.
