If you are tired of ordering in the usual Pokey Stix and Jimmy John's sandwiches, a UW-Madison senior might have solved your problem. Casey Morin, general manager for Straight 2 Your Door Madison, created a service that delivers from a variety of restaurants in the Madison area.
Morin started Get Me Gourmet, a company with the same idea, last school year with a friend.
It was the beginning of the year and we kind of thought we didn't want to eat the same things over and over,"" Morin said. ""We didn't have cars [and it] kind of limited choices.""
Although neither were business majors, the two managed to succeed. They dealt with all phone calls and deliveries personally and did not have any deals with restaurants. Morin said they did all they could for the business when the creator of Straight 2 Your Door in Bloomington, Ind. approached them. Over the summer the two decided to merge, and Straight 2 Your Door started in Madison in October. Morin said he hopes to expand the company even more.
""Ultimately, we'd like to have a few choices from every type of cuisine,"" he said. ""We have some restaurants that deliver for themselves, like D.P. Dough and Jade Garden, and we're looking to just kind of bring it all to one place to just make it easy for the customer.""
Morin acknowledged that there have been food delivery services in Madison in the past that have failed, which explains why some restaurants were initially hesitant to sign with him. He hopes student support and feedback will make Straight 2 Your Door the exception.
""We're really trying to reach out to students,"" Morin said. ""Every Tuesday we have Greek Day, so for every frat and sorority it's $4 off. And every Wednesday is dorm day, so every delivery to a dorm is $4 off as well. We're just trying to get the orders up in the beginning, get people kind of comfortable with the service and relying on it.""
Morin said he thinks his service will make people aware of other restaurants off State Street, such as Café Costa Rica and Jamerica. Not only will Straight 2 Your Door introduce students to different types of food, but he also believes it is something students need in the long run.
""I think kind of the point of our service is you can only order pizza and Chinese food so many times,"" Morin said. ""As I know from my freshman year, health-wise it takes its toll on you. So having those choices is definitely something that people appreciate.""
