Transportation programs to improve across the state

The state of Wisconsin will invest up to $529 million from its federal economic stimulus funds on transportation improvement projects throughout the state, producing and saving at least 13,000 jobs in the state, according to Gov. Jim Doyle.

Wisconsin will move forward with transportation improvements that will generate thousands of family-supporting jobs across the state,"" Doyle said in a statement. ""Wisconsin businesses and workers will be able to more effectively compete in the global economy.""

Doyle already signed $300 million in federal stimulus funds into law in order to begin work on 47 state highway and bridge improvement projects throughout Wisconsin.

Doyle said the Federal Highway Administration will officially approve the improvement projects in the next few days.

Actual construction work on the projects will likely not begin until April and will continue throughout the summer season.
