The UW-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication plans to honor four UW-Madison alumni, including Pulitzer Prize winner David Umhoefer, at the school's award dinner April 17.
Both Umhoefer and Patricia Wright, former vice president for external affairs at BP America who currently serves on UW-Madison's College of Letters and Science board of visitors, will earn the school's Distinguished Services Award.
Umhoefer, who wrote for the The Daily Cardinal and graduated from UW-Madison's School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 1983 , earned the Pulitzer Prize for his investigative reporting at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The school will also honor Elizabeth Medhin, a 2003 graduate, for her exceptional achievements within ten years of graduation, and Garrett O'Keefe, a former UW-Madison professor and graduate for his research in mass communication.
James Baughman, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication said in a statement the successful careers of the winners make them excellent candidates for the awards.
