Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton announced Monday she will not run for governor in 2010, citing family concerns and personal reasons.
In an e-mail sent to her supporters this morning, Lawton said her commitment to the state is second only to the commitment to her family.
""For very personal reasons, I will not pursue the Democratic nomination for governor in 2010,"" she said in the e-mail.
Lawton's exit leaves the Democratic field largely open, as she was considered by many to be the leading candidate and the only major Democratic candidate who had declared her intentions to run.
