The race for the governorship is still in flux for the Democrats, evidenced by Gov. Jim Doyle's recent praise of a relatively unknown potential candidate Thursday.
At a news conference, Doyle showed support for Kevin Conroy, a Madison biotech company executive, who is considering running a gubernatorial campaign as a Democrat.
""I think he's really a remarkable guy,"" Doyle said. ""I know Kevin—he has been a really creative and effective business person in this state and you know, it will be up to him to make his decisions on what he is going to do.""
Doyle's comments come on the heels of Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton's decision to leave the race, and the recent confirmation that Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has been in contact with President Obama.
Barrett is still considering running, and some suspect Obama's visit to Madison next week may be include a discussion between Obama and Barrett about the 2010 gubernatorial election.
