[In response to Kathy Dittrich's Feb. 15 article ""Hypocrisy shines in Shorewood Hills]
You have alerted readers that you don't do enough investigating before you make an opinion. This is a mistake if you want the paper to have legitimacy. I am referring to your Shorewood Hills article. I don't live there, but I am certainly familiar with it.
First, the neighborhood prides itself on having wild and woodsy, or nonmanicured, lawns. According to a realtor who is helping my daughter find a house in town, this is a hallmark of the area. Second, Shorewood School includes the children of the university's married student housing, so the school has Madison's most international population. This is a big draw for people who want their kids to be less ethnocentric. Finally, the residents don't need to move to a self-sufficient community of liberals, they already live in one.
I agree that Shorewood needs more housing for more middle-class folks, but your article is so poorly researched that I wouldn't trust your opinions on much. For a senior at the UW you need to do better.
