A 51-year-old Illinois man was killed early Sunday after crashing his vehicle on University Avenue, according to a release from the Dane County Coroner's Office.
The release said the vehicle was traveling the wrong way on West Johnson Street before it hit another vehicle on the corner of University Avenue and Orchard Street.
The driver then hit a light pole and finally crashed into a building on the 1500 block of University Avenue.
According to the release, the driver was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the UW Hospital emergency room at 12:54 a.m. The release said he was wearing a seatbelt, but officials suspect alcohol was involved.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was also taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
