Madison's Social Security Administration plans to open a hearing office in an attempt to ease the workload in the current office.
The new office will be dedicated to processing appeals, which should help to clear the backlog of disability claim cases. It will only deal with handling second-level appeals.
Six administrative law judges and a support staff will hold hearings and convert medical documents into electronic folders in the new office, according to deputy regional communications director for the SSA Doug Nguyen.
The office will be the second Social Security office in Madison. However, the existing office on Odana Road only staffs two judges. This has become a problem because the office cannot keep up with the workload demanded of it. The new office will help even more by holding video hearings in which judges from other offices can preside over cases if necessary.
The new office will be located at 2501 W. Beltline Highway, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
