A thief struck a 23-year-old Madison man with a baseball bat during a residential burglary at the victim's residence on the 500 block of West Washington Ave early Wednesday morning.
The suspect attempted to steal a video gaming system from the victim's bedroom, according to a police report.
The victim was able to punch the thief a couple of times, police said. The suspect then left the victim's residence.
After the suspect fled the scene, the victim and his roommates found a wallet and a laptop missing from the residence, police said.
One of the roommates said the door to their home had been left unlocked.
""The bat used by the burglar belongs to one of the roommates,"" Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said. ""It was left at the scene.""
The 23-year-old victim was treated at a local hospital for head cuts.
