Madison Area Technical College chemistry and engineering professor Kenneth Walz was recognized as the 2010 Wisconsin Professor of the Year.
The award was created in 1981 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, according to a statement.
Criterion for the U.S. State Professors of the Year program include dedication to undergraduate teaching, support of students and faculty, student involvement, impact on students and improvements to the institution's undergraduate program.
Walz is a director for the Consortium for Education in Renewable Energy Technology. In addition to his teaching at MATC, Walz teaches part-time for the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at UW-Madison and the K-12 Energy Program at UW-Stevens Point.
Walz was chosen from over 300 candidates in the United States and is one of 38 state winners across the country, the statement said.
