President Barack Obama appointed UW-Madison associate law professor Anuj Desai to a federal post in the U.S. Department of Justice.
Desai, an expert in Chinese studies, will serve a three-year term as a member of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission.
The FCSC, which operates under Congressional jurisdiction, determines the monetary value of Americans' claims for loss of property or personal injury in foreign countries.
A UW-Madison faculty member since 2001, Desai teaches in the Law School and the School of Library and Information Studies. He has taught law at National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan and National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan.
Desai received an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Harvard, a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia University and a law degree from the University of California-Berkeley.
