Waukesha County Clerk, Kathy Nickolaus, asked to step down, refuses to do so

The Waukesha County Democratic Party asked for Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus to resign Tuesday due to her handling of the Supreme Court election results last week, a request Nickolaus refused.

""What has happened as a result of this debacle is that confidence in the outcome of the entire spring election has been severely diminished,"" WCDP Chair Victor Weers said in a statement. ""We have become the focal point of all people's fears about their votes being accurately counted.""

However, Nickolaus, who has apologized for the ""error"" that caused the voting confusion, said despite people's concerns, she will serve the rest of her term.

""Again, I am sorry for my mistake,"" Nickolaus said in a statement. ""I have immediately begun the process of reviewing my procedures. I will use the remainder of my term to restore the voters' confidence in me.""
