Chris Taylor, 43, won the Democratic nomination for the 48th State Assembly district Tuesday, July 12.
With no Republican opponent facing her in the Aug. 9 general election, Taylor is almost guaranteed the position, barring a write-in candidate.
Taylor is public policy director at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and will leave the post if the Assembly seat is uncontested in August. She won 31 percent of nearly 11,000 votes cast in Dane County, beating out five other hopefuls. This will be her first elected position.
The 48th district covers parts of the east and far east sides of Madison, parts of Monona and McFarland, and the entirety of towns Blooming Grove and Dunn. The election is being held to determine who will fill Rep. Joe Parisi's assembly seat. He left the seat when he was elected as Dane County Executive earlier this year.
Taylor credits her understanding of working families as well as views on public education and the environment as what ultimately won her the election.
