Chris Taylor won the Democratic nomination for the 48th state Assembly district Tuesday, all but assuring she will fill the seat former state Rep. Joe Parisi vacated when he was elected Dane County Executive earlier this year.
With no Republican opponent facing her in the Aug. 9 general election, Taylor is almost guaranteed the position, barring a write-in candidate.
Taylor is public policy director at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and will leave the post if the Assembly seat becomes hers in August. She won 31 percent of nearly 11,000 votes cast in Dane County, beating out five other hopefuls. This will be her first elected position.
The 48th district covers parts of the east and far-east sides of Madison, parts of Monona and McFarland, and the towns Blooming Grove and Dunn.
Taylor said her understanding of working families, as well as views on public education and the environment, were what ultimately won her the election.
