An e-mail meant to spread the word about the availability of free voter identification cards cost its sender his job Thursday, when Chris Larsen was fired from his mail room position at the Department of Safety and Professional Services, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The law requiring voters to present valid identification at the polls was signed into law last May, and calls for the issue of free voter identification cards to voters who request them from the Department of Transportation.
Larsen, who had a history of workplace violations and inappropriate use of work e-mail, e-mailed coworkers at the DSPS headquarters in Madison, urging them to spread the word about the option of free identification cards.
""REMEMBER TO TELL ANYONE YOU KNOW!!"" Larsen wrote in the e-mail.
The Sentinel reports Larsen's firing is under review. Larsen contends that he's never been disciplined for any past violations.
