Gas line leaks, Bradley evacuates

Bradley Residence Hall was evacuated Wednesday morning because of a damaged underground gas line at a nearby construction site.

Residents were evacuated around 11 a.m. as responders from Madison Gas and Electric repaired the leak in the line that runs under the residence hall.

Students were kept out of Bradley for 45 minutes.

No injuries were reported from the incident or the evacuation.

The cause of the gas leak is unknown, according to the UW Police report.

This is the second evacuation of a Lakeshore residence hall in the last 10 days. Residents of nearby Vel Phillips Hall were evacuated Sept. 13 after a Freon leak in the building's air conditioning system set off smoke alarms.
