Legendary B-movie star Bruce Campbell of the Evil Dead"" franchise is an elusive celebrity. After 30 years in the industry, he is still unfamiliar to many moviegoers, but to those who are familiar with his work he is a dearly beloved figure.
""I'm the only one who knows who Bruce Campbell really is,"" Campbell said.
However, in ""My Name Is Bruce,"" his latest movie, Campbell seeks to turn all preconceptions about him on their heads by playing a caricature of himself.
""There's a lot of stuff in the movie that is kind of oddly true, but I'm the only one who will ever know that,"" he joked, referencing a scene from the film. ""I will never admit to drinking cheap whiskey out of my dog's bowl. Only good whskey.""
Campbell doesn't just act in the movie, he also directed it, helped write it, produced it and built the entire set on his own property.
""When you shoot in a real town ... it's very noisy, and this was a way to eliminate all that,"" he explained. However, once he completed filming, Campbell was left with an entire ghost town on his property. ""It's great for parties,"" he joked.
The film marks his second venture into directing, and he is enjoying the work off-screen.
""I've been behind the cameras a couple of times, both as producer and director, and I've worked in television for years, so I just like the whole process. I like the behind-the-scenes stuff,"" Campbell said, adding he would like to segue into more directing ""if the masses accept it. If the masses say no, I'll stay on 'Burn Notice.'""
On the television show ""Burn Notice,"" Campbell is enjoying perhaps some of the most positive buzz of his entire career. Rather than playing his usual leading- man role, Campbell plays the sidekick, putting his natural comedic skills to good use.
""There's a time to be a leading man and there's a time to be a character actor, and I'm old enough now that it's time to get into my crooked politician/gym teacher/guy next door phase of my career,"" he explained.
As for the ""Evil Dead"" trilogy, Campbell's most well-loved and notorious work, fans are still clamoring for an ""Evil Dead 4
