Nearly 500 participants are registered for the annual UW-Madison Diversity Forum set to take place Thursday, Oct. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Union South.
The forum, hosted by the UW-Madison Office of Diversity and Climate, is free and open to the public and will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions and performances surrounding diversity issues on campus.
""[We want to] have an opportunity for the community to come together and be celebratory and supportive of our institutional commitment [to diversity],"" Vice Provost of the department Damon Williams said.
According to Williams, the forum has three main goals: To update participants on current campus diversity issues, to expose the community to important themes of diversity and to showcase new university initiatives to improve diversity efforts.
Williams also said the forum will inform participants about ""the educational crisis involving males of color,"" who he said face educational disparities across all levels of education.
He said the department designed the forum to encourage a ""strong student voice"" within the various topics of discussion.
