What ever happened to the days when a record would be released and you felt the need to just sit down and listen to it? No other work, no background noise, no distractions, nothing separating you and the sound seeping out of your speakers. Thankfully, the Columbus, Ohio duo the Receiver have released their debut album, Decades, this month, and it's the first album in a number of years worthy enough to receive such treatment. Along with a fresh release on the market, brothers Casey and Jeff Cooper are also in the middle of their first national tour which makes a stop tonight in Madison.
Decades is spawned from Casey Cooper's senior thesis at Ohio State University entitled ""From the Corner of the Room.""
In an interview with The Daily Cardinal, Casey Cooper (multi-instrumentalist and vocals) said with the persuading persistence of brother Jeff Cooper (drums) and an overwhelming response from an audience during an experimental show featuring the two brothers, the ""From the Corner of the Room"" project was taken to the next level, and the Receiver was then formed. Decades showcases the fabulous musicianship of the Coopers and will amaze both music enthusiasts and regular fans alike.
Cooper told The Daily Cardinal that he both writes and is influenced by ""songs that can stand up on their own, great melodies, instrumental lines and just making everything you add on top of it just pop out and make it something bigger."" This practice is exceptionally showcased on Decades.
The Receiver brilliantly wear their influences on their sleeve, while cleverly making the album feel like a collaboration between Radiohead, Elliot Smith and Sigur RA
