A UW student almost fell victim to a robbery Friday night when a man behind him in line at a State Street ATM attempted to snatch the his $20 bill.
Police said the man bumped the male student, 21, to reach for the cash just as it came out of the machine.
According to the report, there was a brief struggle over the bill, but the student did not lose it.
""The man had been standing directly behind him, as if he was also going to use the ATM,"" Madison Police Department Spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a statement.

According to the report, the suspect said ""excuse me"" in attempt to make the contact appear accidental.
""It was a likely attempt to distract the student,"" DeSpain said in a statement.
