Two North Broom Street roommates held down two burglars who broke their apartment window Monday night until police arrived at the scene.
Police said the roommates heard a garbage can get kicked over and opened the door. They found two men hanging from their second-floor balcony. The men claimed they wanted to smash the pumpkins that were on the balcony.
The roommates later heard the sound of breaking glass and found one of the suspects had broken two of their windows.
“One roommate tackled one of the suspects and held him, waiting for police to arrive,” Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a statement.
The other intruder, who returned to free his friend and punched a roommate in the nose, was tackled by the other roommate until officers were on the scene.
Police charged the intruders with disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, battery and underage alcohol possession.
