Representatives on the UW System Board of Regents will have to come from each of Wisconsin’s eight congressional districts under a law Gov. Scott Walker signed Tuesday.
The bill is intended to guarantee the entire state is represented on the board and will take effect in 2013.
Currently, half of the regents are from the Milwaukee or Madison area.
The board, made up of 14 Wisconsin citizens, two students, the state superintendent of public instruction and the president of the technical college system board approved the bill at their April meeting in a 12-5 vote.
