A bill that eases restrictions on public sampling of homemade wine or beer in Wisconsin passed by a 32-1 vote in the state Senate Tuesday.
Under the legislation, no license or permit is required to make wine or beer if the person who makes the beverages receives no compensation, the alcohol is not offered for sale or the total quantity of wine or beer does not exceed 200 gallons per year.
If a home brewer meets these standards, the alcohol can be sampled at a public or private event without a permit.
Sen. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald was the lone vote against the bill.
