Recall primary elections will likely be held May 8 and general elections June 5 for Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, and three other Republican state senators, after a judge granted officials an extension to review petitions.
Dane County Judge Richard Niess granted the Government Accountability Board more time to review recall petitions for Walker and Kleefisch Wednesday. The previous deadline was March 19, but the GAB will now have until March 30 to verify the signatures, which would push the dates for elections to May 8 and June 5, according to the GAB.
“This scenario allows all the recall elections to be consolidated on two dates, saving taxpayers additional costs had the elections been held on different schedules,” GAB Director Kevin Kennedy said in a statement Wednesday.
The GAB said earlier this week there are sufficient petitions for the four state senators, but still need to review petitions against Walker and Kleefisch to find and strike duplicate signatures.
