Passenger allegedly robs, stabs taxi driver

A passenger allegedly robbed a taxi driver and stabbed her in the arm and ear early Tuesday morning on South Park Street.

Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said the suspect attempted to rob the driver, and in the process of doing so, stabbed her with a paring knife.

Lt. Sherrie Strand said the taxi driver was dropping off the suspect at Asian Midway Foods at 301 S. Park St. around 4 a.m. when the suspect “went through the pockets of the taxi driver.”

Strand said after robbing the driver, the suspect “stabbed her in the arm and ear.” The victim’s injuries were non-life threatening, according to police.

Strand said the suspect mentioned she did not have any money.

Police describe the suspect as a thin, light-skinned black woman, wearing a tan coat.

DeSpain said the case has been assigned to a detective and investigation is continuing. Police have not made any arrests.
